I can guarantee you Kuznetsov will not be in the set. I am almost 100% sure Gormely will not be included as well both debuted too late and will be in 14-15 products.

    I think you're right.

I do know that there is a deadline for including players in sets, and as you said, the deadline was probably gone past when they started.

I wonder if players like Reto Berra and Viktor Fasth will be pictured with the team they started with, or the team they got traded to? Damien Brunner is curious too...some sets depict him with the Red Wings, while others show him with the Devils.

Brunner has been pictured as a Devils for pretty much any set since December on. Fleer Showcase also used Devil swatches in his patch auto so safe to say if he makes SPA it will be as a Devil. I would assume Fasth got moved too late for an update.

Fasth in the last couple of Panini products has been an Oiler..... so decent chance of it.

The burning question for me: Will Scrivens (with an auto'd parallel) have an authentic moment card, for that 58 save SO against the Sharks?

It won't do much good, but I contacted Upper Deck about the Brunner situation. I said:

    ************************************************** ******************
I have a question about Damien Brunner rookie cards produced by Upper Deck.

Why do some of Damien Brunner's rookies produced by Upper Deck (Artifacts, O-Pee-Chee, MVP, Trilogy) show him as a member of the Red Wings, while others produced by Upper Deck (Young Guns, Ice) show him as a member of the New Jersey Devils?

Why split the Brunner RCs between the two teams? He wasn't traded in the middle of the season. Makes no sense.

He started as a Red Wing, that is what his rookie card should show. Please be consistent!

I collect SP Authentic rookies. If Brunner is included in the 2013-14 SP Authentic set, please show him, and list him on the card, as a Red Wing!
    ************************************************** ******************

    Their response was simply:

    ************************************************** ******************
Thank you for the email. We will pass this input along to our NHL product development team to review.
    ************************************************** ******************

I highly doubt they will do anything. They will do what they're going to do, and that's it.

On the topic of Brunner.... just going to guess:

He was in the league last year (Red Wings) and then moved to New Jersey in the offseason, right?

So he was a holdover, and all his early season RCs (the ones they started printing in the summer, released before the season started) show him as a Red Wing. Once game action actually started.... they showed him as a Devil.

A good thought. However, it still does not justify picturing him as a Devil. His rookie season was with Detroit. Period.

If you start out issuing his cards as a Red Wing, stay consistent and show him as a Red Wing for the full year's worth of sets. That's what I tried to convey in my message to Upper Deck.

If he is pictured as a Devil, it should not count as an RC since he did not start with them. This is not the 1980s where players sometimes played several years in the league (and playing for possibly more than one team) before appearing in a set; this is 2014 and doing this is inexcusable even if the season has been disrupted.

It would be different if he were traded, like Viktor Fasth. SP Authentic comes out later in the year so it makes sense that Fasth could be pictured as an Oiler.

Another of the unintended consequences of the "Double Rookie Class."

Here's the thing, though. How many Red Wings fans are going to be interested in collecting his cards at this point? Brunner is a footnote in the team's history, if that. The Devils fans that have been seeing him all throughout the 2013-14 season are going to want his rookie cards showing him as a Devils player.

Tough spot for sure. I think they're doing the right thing by "updating" him accordingly.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
