I always find it odd when people pay more for a card then they need to lol. Whenever I'm involved in an auction, as I'm bid up I will always search for comparable BIN's or BO's to make sure I'm not getting emotionally carried away in the auction.

Sold at auction for $76 US plus shipping

Can BIN for $64.99 US plus shipping

Just throwing this out there...I know the global shipping program has been discussed before, likely at nausea, but to you American sellers that use this program for trading cards, especially hockey, you lose a tonne of business from Canadian buyers! I'm not too familiar with the program so maybe there are some perks to using it but it seems to me that the only real winners are the creators of the program.

i second this......i will not buy anything from a seller that uses this regardless of how much i would like the item
i wonder if the sellers actually know how much we get charged

I will buy from sellers who use the program. The problem for the sellers is that I factor the extra fee in to my bid.

For example if their is a card that I am willing to bid $80 on. Say that card has a $15 Global Shipping Program fee then my max bid will be $65. Less to the seller.

I really do not understand why any sellers use that "service".

    $15 for shipping? LOL

How about $45 shipping to Europe?

Here's one example - for me being in Europe, thanks to global ebay shipping progarm shipping stays at $42,87 USD.. For a $15 card

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-09-UD-P...item1c488571ed

I can say that clearly you guys (i mean sellers from USA/Canada) lost tons of bids from European collectors thanks to this program. And i know some sellers who didn't even imagine how much does it cost for european buyers to pay for shipping by this program! And as far as i understand for the seller there is no option to reduce this shipping price.
So $15 shipping - this is a dream for europeans ...

I agree with this and do the same. Basically add the the charges together to come up with the overall shipping charge. Most of the time though, because of the import charge, the overall cost is higher than I'd pay and the gps is what pushes it over!

That's just it. For even something as simple as a $.99 parallel...if it's a limited enough or wanted enough card I'll bite the bullet at $8 shipped. But adding $15?! Cue the Vince McMahon theme song....

First of all, to clear things up, Canadians don't ship with the Global Shipping Program. I still ship quite a few cheap cards to Europe.

USA sellers who use the Program are the ones losing out. I have talked to a few sellers about the Program and basically let them know that their sales are suffering because of it. Most agree and say that they are thinking about leaving it or they will be leaving it. Not sure if those particular sellers left the program or not since I typically stay away from those sellers.

But can people in Canada/Europe not just get their cards from USA sellers sent to COMC? They surely do not send using the Program as they were advertising this service at the Expo this week-end. I will have to be using COMC soon as well since apparently Canada is an international country to USA after aaaaaaall these years lol.

COMC doesn't even seem to be phased that people are using their company like this. I'm not sure who thought of it first, COMC or someone thinking outside the box but regardless it doesn't seem like COMC are jumping on the bandwagon and raising their prices. I think it is basically advertisement for COMC. One of their reps told me today they do about 5% of eBay sales and I think they're counting on raising that percentage as more and more people start dealing with them.

    Win-win. Use COMC not GSP.

It's marketed as protecting sellers because it's essentially hands-off once they send the cards to the shipping center. Of course, I think most of us view it as another way for Ebay to line their pockets. I've seen American users of other hobby sites now advertising their services to act as a middleman, having Canadian buyers' purchases shipped to them before they send them to Canada at a much lower rate than the global shipping program.

I've got an American PO box about 15 minutes from home, and it's been well worth the cost given some of the deals I find since Canadians can't or won't bid on certain U.S.-based items. Between those savings and the stuff I get from Amazon Vine, it pays for itself many times over...and it's nice to be able to help out my Canadian hobbyists once in a while.

This isn't about hockey cards but I have an ebay issue so sorry if this is the wrong place

A few weeks ago I bought something BIN on ebay. A few hours later I realized I made a mistake and contacted the seller asking if he could cancel. Said he couldn't and gave me what I thought was a BS excuse and said he was gonna ship it out the next day. Whatever, my mistake for purchasing in the first place and told him as soon as it arrives I'll just send it back for a refund. Week goes by, it arrives and I immediately send it back out through ebay's hassle free returns with tracking number and everything. Tracking number says it was delivered on the 5th but the seller claims he never got it. ebay says I can't open a claim until the 18th but I assume it will be an easy win for me since the tracking number shows he got it right?

    Should be.

This is something I am weary about but have yet to experience it. I know someone claimed the package they received containing a silver spoon (birks, sterling silver, demitasse) was damaged and so was the spoon. Okay, so I have over 3000 transactions on eBay and I have seen 3 damaged packages so that's fine. He opens a claim. I tell him to send it back. He ™™™™™es about the tracking and cost. eBay grants him a full refund without him having to return the item. eBay claims it is so I save my stellar eBay rating. Ya, whatever. I still lost my 20% discount because he still gave me negative feedback. Bullsh*t. 3000 transactions and I'm at fault? I guess 2,999 people are wrong :P

There is no reason why he couldn't send a request to cancel. Him claiming that he did not receive the package back is proof he just wants to get rid of the item. If you provide tracking number (go through the steps of money-back guaranteed eBay policy) then you should be fine. He is just an idiot.

As for GSP... You will find that corrupt postal workers (or middleman) are stealing more packages now than before. They realize that both buyer and seller are protected and no one gets 'hurt' if they steal the package. 3 times I have bought from a GSP seller. First time was when I was not aware of the program. The other two times I factored in the cost and was still cheaper than I could get in Canada. Both times those packages were 'lost'. Okay... not lost. I phoned Pitney Bowes and they gave me the most retarded explanation ever. The package is not lost, we just can't find it. Yeah, tracking number has it in one place for 3 weeks without moving and no one can find it. They will never say that it is lost though. It's a total scam.

3,000 transactions and maybe 4-5 packages have been lost. Let's say 5. That is 0.00166% of packages lost. 3 packages from GSP and 2 are lost so thats 66% of packages lost.

That is 40,120% more packages lost by Pitney Bowes than USPS and Canada Post. Wow, never thought of it like that lol

Not only did USPS raise their prices almost 3 fold but they also refer their services to another company that raises prices exponentially compared to original cost AND they now consider Canada an International country but they also lose 401x more packages with absolutely (from my experience) no remorse for what happened to your mail.
