    No love for Earl Campbell. Sure you can be pretty and dance around the opposing team like sanders and emmit did, but earl just plowed thru them, he was a dominating force for 8 soild years, compiling 9,407 hard fought yards. If you ever see game tape of this guy you would be amazed

    This topic so far has been a very interesting read, and I've certainly learnt alot from it! With only having followed the NFL for 1 season I can't comment on this, but the spin move that Sanders displays in the video on the previous page is amazing!!

    I agree with everyone and no one. Picking the best running back of all time is difficult. Reason being is that each of us has memories that alter/affect our decisions.

    I can only go back to the early 70's and then it's all speculation on the earlier guys.

    What position did Gale Sayers play?

    Anyone know what Rocky Bleier did to make him special?

    Last thing;
    Barry was a wonder to watch but he did walk away when he had at least 3 to 5 years left because of a contract dispute. So I can't call him Number one. Walter Payton was just as amazing to watch. He could combine finese with power. Earl Campbell was a crushing runner, you simply didn't get in front of him. Emmitt was a tactical kinda guy, think about it. He had to stall and move until the holes opened for him. While I am not saying he is number one I will give him props. Never liked the fact that he kept every single ball he scored with.

    What about the best single moment in a Running back history?
    The Immaculate Reception would be number one, imo.

    Nice to see so much love for Jim Brown - Did you guys know he might have actually been a better lacrosse player than football player?
    Many say he was the best lacrosse player ever.

    I think Barry Sanders is prob the best alltime, but this is a great thread.

    RenegadeLonghorn : I think you missed my post #25.

    And I quote again :

    The "Great O-Line" was a dig at the crap that was the Cardinals.

    I agree with Hepcat also. Very well put.

    And can someone tell me, why did Barry Sanders retire ?

    Why is that? He's given away many of them anyways.
