So lets see He didn't get what he wanted so He QUIT
Hmm sounds about the same huh.

Man, you are relentless with this. Retiring is NOT the same as quitting. Barry Sanders put his heart & soul into football for a long time. He was on a team that did nothing to help him, or to build a winning franchise. How dare you call him a quitter!!!!!!!!!! The guy is 3rd all time in rushing and never rushed for under 1,000 yards. He did this for a perpetually bad team and even brought them within 1 game of the Super Bowl....not to mention one of a few to EVER rush for 2,000 yards in a season. Did Emmitt Smith ever do that? NO he didn't, even with his HOF O-Line.

Have you ever seen his Playoff numbers? He did very litttle in those games. If he was Great why did he not take over the game.
have you ever looked up the word retire? Retire 4: to withdraw from one's position or occupation : conclude one's working or professional career
Quit:4 a: to depart from or out of
looks about the same there huh.
Stop making excuses for this guy. Bary was a scatback. He was a flashy player. But the greatest rb no. Walter Payton Jim Brown and Earl Campbell were better then him hands down.

conclude one's working or professional career---HE STOPPED PLAYING FOOTBALL

He didn't want to play anymore.....™™™ do you call it when any player retires? Did Emmitt Smith QUIT when he decided to RETIRE? I really don't get your reasoning. & I said it before, I'm not making excuses for Barry SAnders. I'm stating a FACT....

BARRY SANDERS WAS A BETTER BACK THAN EMMITT SMITH

who says barry was a scatback? and what exactly is a scatback?
whatever, barry certainly wasn't one unless the term means the best running back ever.

so Jim Brown is a quitter in your mind too right?

Earl Campbell played 8 years, he quit too right?

So you're saying a "fast & elusive back" automatically disqualifies you from consideration? Last I checked, you didnt have to be a bruiser to play Running Back....Earl Campbell can barely walk nowadays because of his style, but Barry quit....go figure

It's funny that you pull out a 1945 definition for scatback...when most teams ran a Wing T formation and just pushed the ball forward..."Scatbacks" were rare and kinda unnecessary back then...I'd say half of anybodys top 10 list would fit Websters definition

And I really want to see your source for saying Barry wanted a new deal? Usually when you are the highest paid player at your position for 3 years straight, you aren't looking for a new deal...I didn't twist anything around...I think you deliberately ignored my counterpoints directed towards you. I didnt say handing the ball to the ref made him the best RB ever...I said it shows he was not a me-first attention grabbing player, which you accused him of

I'm not trying to change your mind on who the best RB is, but it's almost blasphemous to call Barry a quitter & me-first player....I cant stop laughing because I cant tell if you're serious or just egging us on....Either way, you're lying to yourself...not about who the best RB is, but about Barry quitting

Right....Timmy Smith is the best RB of all time, cuz he ran for 200+ yards in the Super Bowl...Refrigerator Perry is better than Sweetness cuz he scored a Super Bowl TD...blah blah blah

And Webster, since your definition of quit & retire about the same, why do you feel the need to insult him by calling him a quitter???

Earl Campbell, Jim Brown & Walter Payton were all "fast & elusive"...so they are scatbacks too then

You must be a Buccaneers or Vikings fan, cuz Barry is really getting to you

here is one for the barry fans. if barry played for the cowboys and had that o-line, we're talking 2500 yards for multiple years, maybe ever a 3000 yd year. there you go emmitt fans.

barry played on a "nothing" team, had a "nothing" quarterback, a "nothing" line and a "nothing" organization backing him, and still had a 2000 yard season. did emmitt?
so, i guess barry didn't do too bad for a "scatback". ha ha ha

So that you can appreciate what Sanders did with the Lions, just look at the Lions for the past 5 yrs and you can see what an awful organization it is. They are hands down the worst franchise in the NFL. The best player he had in 10 yrs was Herman Moore. Huh, who? Also, he is with Jim Brown, the only backs to average over a 100 yds a game for their entire careers. Now he did this with absolutely no o line help because the Lions ran a lot of 4 wideout sets. What does this mean? It means 4 WRs which means no TE's and no full back. Only 5 O line men trying to block 8 defensive men in the box. And oh yeah, since he played in the NFC north division, guess who was coming with 7 other guys to stop Sanders. For at least half the season, a total of 8 games every year, he had John Randle, Reggie White, Mike Singletary and Warren Sapp among others. So I would place Sanders a close second to Brown because they are the only 2 guys I have seen where the opposing team game planned to stop them, and then see clips of these guys out running the entire defense. There are clips where sometimes 5, 6 and 7 guys are chasing them and they just get left in the dust.
