I agree. We need the competition back. That, I'm in favor of. I'm not sure though that everyone understands why we have this monopoly in the first place. It has UD, Topps and the NBA's fingerprints all over it. So you're petitioning for no monopoly while they are the one's to encourage it. They probably don't even want to be in the BskB market right now
“As many of you are aware, the NBA trading card market has been in a state of steady decline for the last five years, (that's pre Panini)” McWilliam wrote. “Significant revenue losses and eroding profit margins led to an unsustainable business model. Based on the success of our exclusive relationship with the NHL and NHL Players Association, we encouraged the NBA to consider an exclusive licensing relationship for their trading card business, and we aggressively lobbied for Upper Deck to be that exclusive partner (sure lol).”
Another quote:
"As we look to the future of our trading card business, there is general consensus, including with our current partners, Topps and Upper Deck, that moving forward with an exclusive partner is the best way for us to energize the category on a worldwide basis." - Sal LaRocca, Executive Vice President, NBA Global Merchandising GroupLast edited by cgb_orl; 09-18-2011 at 09:40 AM.

Welcome to an Oligopoly. A cartel, if you will.
This is collusion at its finest. Each company gets its own slice of the pie. Topps gets the MLB (exclusive) and NFL, Panini gets the NBA (exclusive) and NHL, and Upper Deck gets the NHL and NFL.
Anyway, they're in the business to make money. This means that their cost goes into hiring people to design cards, paying for production equipment, paying for autographs and jerseys and packaging and shipping the product. This can add up to a lot for a card that can wind up in the dollar bin at your local card show.
However, diminishing returns is a sign of perfect competition. In a perfect world, there would be no profits. But then why would businesses ever operate if that were the case?
So long as there are willing buyers, there are sellers. Simple as that.

and even if we are not succesful with this petition panini will get a very very small amount of money from me. i only collect 2 players, miller and rose. and they dont feature miller in any of the panini products so thats good. i really dont care for the other players.and if i ever pull a card thats not miller or rose and its worth alot of money, trust me it will be gone as fast as i got it, even ifs a patch auto micheal jordan hanes worn etccc. and i never said i would never stop buying panini. but i hope you guys realize the sports card trading is not the same with out ud, topps etcc. yall know panini is slowly killing the nba sports card trading.
