I think Jordan was the greatest of his era, but I wonder about other players in the past. Would Dr. J have been able to stop him? Sometimes, I think the older players do not get enough credit.
This is the same argument as the Babe playing in baseball today. I even remember talking boxing with guys trying to compare Tyson to Ali in their primes. There's just nothing concrete to base the argument on.
I will say that I agree with Notorious. Nobody could take over a game the way Jordan could that last 5 minutes of the game. He was on another level, it was something special, and I consider myself fortunate to be a part of that era of basketball.

I hope they give the breaks to Lebron, CP3, and deron that they gave to Jordan.

i think he is the most arrogant player the nba has ever seen even in todays era, he was all about himself and "his" team.

I know, but I hope they do for the others. I think a great finals in the future would be Utah(D Will) or New Orleans (C Paul) versus the Cavs (LBJ). We would then see if any of these guys could surpass Jordan.

i think lebron has more potential than jordan did, he just has to use it, and now that he has teammates they could easily make it to the finals, i'd like to see kobe vs. lebron.

I do not know if that would be as good as people think. The Lakers seem to be pretty deep. I think the Cavs could win if Gasol or Bynum was injured.

I havent taken much time to read through more that the first page of this thread, but I am shocked.
I grew up watching Jordan and he was NOT over-rated. This is coming from a Indy guy who watched his Pacers continually get stopped by either the Bulls or the Knicks on their way to a Championship. so I am not a fanboy
Take away his off the court issues, that doesnt factor into his performance as a basketball player. I dont think anyone posting on these forums can understand what it would be like to gifted athletically like Jordan was.
Do I think LeBron or Kobe can be considered better than Jordan? Yes, they are playing in an NBA that Jordan would not have been as big of a star in. And beyond that, he would have never made it to North Carolina in todays pool of talent. That being said, everyone should be measured by their achievements in the correct time frame. There is no way for you to measure performance outside of that. One day someone may come along and smash all of Tiger Woods' records, would that make less of a legend or over-rated? absolutely not
anyone hating on Jordan needs to stop, watch some old games and come back to this thread. He WAS that good.
(and just as a p.s., before AI, Jordan got shutdown in college by my boy, former Hoosier Dan Dakich, I love his radio show!)Last edited by thenext54; 12-26-2008 at 12:00 AM.

Another thing - the schedules are much MUCH different now than they were - when Jordan played, they scheduled 4 games in 5 nights. Now, it's rare to have 3 games in 4 days, and you NEVER see 4 in 5. That alone is impressive, how he was still able to put up 30+ ppg when playing for the 4th time in 5 days!
