Haven't read the entire thread but hears my take.

I wouldnt have touched the packs in the first place. Even if he did misconstrue what you were doing, you shouldnt have been doing it in the first place. I guess you can look at it this way; its his shop, his rules. Abide by them.

    i defintly disagree...

its not rules this owner has, he is simply judging based on age or apperance etc, tell me if it was a 30 year old man in a very nice suit and tie who did the exact same thing the store owner would act the same way? no way he would...

if he doesnt want people touching his packs, they should be behind the counter

and if he has rules, he should explain them and have these "rules" written somewhere for customers to see..

I work at a card shop and what I've learned is that customer service is everything. The rule at the shop I work at is that if somebody walks in you stop what you are doing approach the person and ask if there is anything you can help them with. From what I've seen its the scruffy looking guys rather than suit, tie, business guys who buy the big stuff. THe thing is find a shop where the owner is nice and get on a first name basis with them.

Definitely sounds like a rude shop owner to me. I would have taken my money elsewhere too, and made sure he knew it lol. Im lucky enough to live about 10 min. from Dave & Adams which is one of the biggest card shops in the world I hear. I have met some good people that work in there. Never bother me when Im lookin at packs, and they dont own the store so they dont try selling me on bogus products. Theres another store about 2 min from D&A's that is more your typical store owner behind the counter type store. I tried goin there a few times but had a few bad experiances, and he ripped me off when I first got into the hobby again so I stick to D&A's

Sorry to hear your story bro. when i was younger i've encountered shop owners like the one you mentioned. i know for a fact, some owners play favoritism. if you're that kid spending mom and dad's cash 3-4 times a week at that particular shop, you'll be treated like a king but if you're just a random guy who buys a pack or two once in a blue moon, you're nobody. other traders might disagree with me but that's just my past encounter though. good luck.

ok ,I've read the 1st few quotes on this thread and it kinda has me scratching my head.To pick up a pack in your hands to see what the odds are for inserts is considered "pack searching"?You've gotta be kidding me???? I go to local card stores all the time and Ive never ever heard of that bs.So let me ask you all this now because this will fall in the same category. If I was to ask a card dealer to see a card in his case(lets say its a 71 pete rose)to get a better look at it......would that be considered card searching seeing I had to look at the card closer to see if it really was worth what the price was on it?I think you all know what I mean.If dealers are gonna be that picky, especially the one the first person encountered,he doesnt need your business.Too bad you didn't have like 100 dollars on you.You could've pulled it out and said "See this"?I was gonna spend it.....CYA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
