So why not eliminate the temptation? You're trying to make a point that doesn't pertain to the discussion.

That's the thing, eliminating guns will not eliminate the temptation. Criminals will find other ways. Some one who wants to commit murder will, regardless if they have a gun or not.

But then will guns be ok? I mean, come on, anything can be a deadly weapon. What about someone who is trained in martial arts? Should they be banned? Have you ever watched one of those documentaries about maximum sercruity prisons? Have you ever seen the stuff they make deadly weapons out of?

Which leads to the main point. Its not WHAT it is, it's WHO is behind it.

    Truth be told!

Again, debating what is considered a deadly weapon. While you may think this is a good point and needs to be heard, it has nothing to do with what we're discussing. Guns are unnecessary.

It's so much easier to commit a crime with a gun, though. If I went into a bank and tried to rob it with a knife or baseball bat, I'd be laughed at.

Actually I work at a bank, and you would be surprised at what tactics criminals use. Knives, a simple note saying "give me all the money", bomb threats. They don't get laughed at, they get the money.

Hmm... maybe we should consider banning bomb threats. See? I can do it, too. The point is, guns lead to crime more than any weapon. Period.

"killing machine". People could kill with a baseball bat, should we take away baseball bats? People could kill with a steak kinfe. Should we take away knives? And maybe even steaks? What about vehicles? Alot of people suck at driving, and get in wrecks that kill people. Murder and violence have been around a long, long time before guns. What about stoning? Can we get rid of all the stones in the world?

    Purpose of Items

    Baseball Bat: Hit baseballs.
Steak Knife: To cut food...most of the time Steak.
Steak: #1) A delicious treat that we can eat for pleasure and nutrition.
Steak: #2) Hold down items, such as a tent.
Steak: #3) A weapon used to kill vampires.
Vehicles: Used to get from Point A to Point B.
Stones: Natural and not man made, often used in architecture.

    And finally

    Guns: To kill.

That's why you wouldn't ban those other items. They serve a purpose other than to kill. That argument is just silly.
(And yes I realize, steak and stake are two different things, just proving a point)

Ok, I have mine. I'll keep mine. I have two coming in the end of this week. And I'll also have those. I'll continue to hunt. I'll continue to keep the coyotes, bobcats, and mountain lions away from my cows and calves. I'll continue to hunt, and enjoy it. I'll have trophies and meat (not just store bought). I'll also continue to protect my family, friends, and fellow man.

We will always disagree. You think guns are the problem, I think certain people are. But IF President-elect Obama decides to take them away, and IF it actually gets passed, I'll continue to own my guns, and hunt with them. And if it does get passed, leagal Americans will lose their guns, and criminals will have them.

If thats the America you want, so be it. No one will be able to make you think different.

    From the New York Times:
Thieves Use Pens, Not Guns, As Bank Robbery Soars in City

    By SABRINA TAVERNISE
    Published: January 3, 2004
Bank robberies in New York City soared by 64 percent last year over 2002, driven by an increase in unarmed robberies, the police said yesterday.
There were 408 bank robberies in 2003, an average of more than one a day, the police said. The vast majority of those -- 342 -- were carried out without the use of a weapon, the police said.

It's taken me twenty posts in ten minutes to explain that. Something tells me you'll still get a chorus of "yeah, but..." arguments.
