Wow...I thought Detroit was only a player or two away from WS contention...well, now they just lost another 2 players, and are even farther away from being a contender than they were yesterday...can't complain, though, since I'm a Twins fan...but man, the Yankees just improved alot, if that's even possible...

I think Scherzer will make everyone forget Jackson. Now let the Brent Clevlen era begin in center field! (that is sarcasm, in case you weren't sure).

trade
noooooo...........now we have no one up the middle. no defense at all. if you watched everett last year......he is not a major league shortstop. if bondo does not come back to form........no starting rotation except for justin. no bullpen. this is sick. even a die hard tiger fan like me cannot be optimistic about 2010. this is absolutely correct.
Pitching isnt what killed the Tigers last year it was OFFENSE
Edwin Jackson had a handfull of 2-0 or 1-0 losses His record definatley didnt depict the kind of pitcher he is
fbbreaker you saw the same thing i did. jackson is a legit #2

Scherzer is MLB-ready and an upgrade right now over Jackson in my opinion. Austin Jackson has been in the minors for 4-5 years already, he's either going to start in AAA or MLB. Coke is a decent reliever, and Schlereth might end up being a great reliever. When you factor in how long the Tigers will have the players they acquired under control, I don't see why Tiger fans would be too upset. I understand it sucks losing your favorite player, and you can be justifiably disappointed on that front, but Scherzer might end up being the best player in this deal, Edwin and Granderson included. Everyone the Tigers got in return is MLB-ready or less than a year away.
I would probably hold off on judgment of the deal until we see how Austin Jackson pans out. But with the pitching they received in return, they may still end up with a good deal even if Jackson only ends up as an average MLB OF.
Just my take on the trade though.

gamble....that's fine and all (on Scherzer), but the LAST problem the Tigers have is pitching....they got rid of one of their better producing offensive players for more pitching and a minor league batter. Not sure how that makes the Tigers better, when their main problem last year was scoring runs?

I really don't like this trade. I would have liked to see the Yankees keep Austin Jackson.

Agreed, why would Arizona do it???
Verlander is my favorite tiger...
Tigers wont finish last...
If Jackson DOES pan out, Tigers will look like genius's...i dont know if anyone remembers but i think Dambrowski was the Marlins GM when they blew the team up after 97, everyone thought he was nuts...
Pitching wins world series though...
Granderson > Jackson as of today...Hidden Content

I can agree with that but I am more concerned with the fact that Austin Jackson has a ton of potential. I just hate to see him go.
