Nobody's complaining. Are you familiar with a Rant?
This is a rant. It's what the internet was invented for.
Sheesh...

Well your solution is not on internet. I strongly encourage vintage collectors to go to sportscards shows/expos... that's the only way you'll meet more friends collecting the same things as you. If they all stay at home, so it is normal to see the vintage market not growing as mentionned in the first post of this thread. I think your rant is over! ;)

I just find the remarks "Flavour of the Week" and "This board is full of children" to be offensive. I don't mind people expressing themselves, but no need to call others out and/or insult anyone/everyone when it's clearly not warranted.

I think someone is right on here. People are simply trying to explain why the vintage market is not strong/popular/in demand comparatively to the modern cards area.

Even with the multiplier for condition this is only a $600 card, but it sells for $1,026. I wonder why that is?

That Dryden Rookie was graded an 8 probably because of it's colour. It's not completely white as some are. I have a Guy Lafleur RC that is also a bit yellow, not white and of the same year. I also have a Dionne RC of the same year that is as white as the driven snow.

Oh yeah, but nobody collects vintage. There's no market for it at all. Just pass your vintage on to others.
Oh another one....

I mean who in their right mind would buy such a set.....right? It's impossible to find a collector who'd be interested in "older cards". Collectors like this....don't exist!!! Do they?

Kevin nailed it on the head!!!!
People nowadays like to see who they are busting out of the packs. It's as simple as that!!! Would kids or adults, who are busting products like The Cup, SP Authentic or SPX, nowadays rather pull a Gretzky or a Crosby. Simple answer.....Crosby!! Would they rather pull an Ovechkin or a Lemieux......my bets are on Ovy!! It's just the way of the land. 10 years from now would you rather pull a Taylor Hall or a Brodeur....I'm thinking Hall....no?
It's just simple logic. But I get a HUGE chuckle outta people who thinks there is no market for hi-end vintage. It's hilarious..........Last edited by reoddai; 09-22-2010 at 01:55 PM.

There's simple logic... and there's simple logic.
When you say market, are we talking a breadth or a depth? I don't know many vintage websites. In terms of vintage, eBay seems pretty active though.
eBay has 82 completed listings for 1951,52 hockey cards in the past 15 days. ~80% sold (including reprints)
eBay has 251 completed listings for 1966-67 hockey cards in the past 15 days. ~50% sold
In the same timeframe for 1999-00 eBay has 1811 completed listings. Looks like ~30% sold.
Same timeframe, for 2009-10 eBay has 18,577 completes listings, also at about ~30% sold.
I agree that there is a market, but the size of the market is pretty small when compared with that of modern day cards.
