July 23, 1914 - Austria-Hungary's Ultimatum to Serbia

On this date in history, the Austrian-Hungary empire issued an ultimatum to Serbia following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. On June 28 of that year, the heir to the Austrian-Hungary throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were on a tour through Sarajevo when he was assassinated by a young Bosnian assassin named Gavrilo Princip. The event is said to be one of the main precipitating events leading up to the start of World War I.
